On Sunday, February 3 our pastor preached on this topic. The focus thought was from Judges chapters 13-16. Here we learn of the story of Samson. He was chosen from conception by God to deliver his people out of the hands of the Philistines, but this came with a price. Many people want to be used of God but don't really want to pay the price or count up the cost!
Samson's parents didn't understand many of his choices, but they were the Lord's doing. This teaches us that God does not always do things that make sense to mortal man, in fact, he usually does the opposite of what we expect. Delilah's lap is a metaphor for anything that pulls us away or takes the place of God in our lives. Let us be careful to put God first, for Matt. 6:33 tells us to seek God's kingdom first, and all other things will be added to us.
